As the use of AI chatbot, ChatGPT continues to rise among students for essay-writing assistance, a computer science student at Princeton has developed a solution to combat the issue of "AI plagiarism." Edward Tian, the creator of GPTZero, an app that can quickly and efficiently detect whether an essay is written by ChatGPT or a human. By measuring the text's "perplexity" or randomness, GPTZero can distinguish between human-written and machine-generated content. Public schools in New York City have recently banned the use of ChatGPT on school devices and WiFi networks, but GPTZero offers a more effective solution by equipping teachers with the ability to detect AI-generated essays. Currently, in beta stages, GPTZero can be tried out on its official website, gptzero.me.
